What is Learning Outcome?
We all know that learning something new is always beneficial. Sometimes we see the results immediately, while at other times, we may have to wait a little longer. However, it does contribute significantly to shaping your career growth. A learning outcome is the result or fruit you attain when you successfully complete a course (or specialization). Through learning outcome configuration, you can associate any of following achievements with a course or specialization.
- Skills
- Competencies
- Licenses and Certifications
After successfully completing a course, the associated learning outcome is added to the worker’s talent profile that employee can access from Me » Career and Performance » Skills and Qualifications
Note : You associate Skills only if you are using Dynamic Skills
Prerequisites to Configure Learning Outcomes
The learning outcome is reflected in the learner’s talent profile. To ensure a smooth process, there are a few prerequisite setups that we must be aware of and have ready.
Enable Profile Option for Learning Outcome
You must have set profile value to yes for profile option WLF_ENABLE_LEARNING_OUTCOMES to be able to configure learning item. Please follow below navigation to do the needful.
- Search for the task Manage Administrator Profile Values.
- Search for the profile option code : WLF_ENABLE_LEARNING_OUTCOMES
- Change profile option value to Y
- Click on Save and Close button.
Log out and log back in to ensure that profile values take effect.
Configure Talent Profile Sections
You must have all talent profile sections already configured that we can link as learning outcome. You can follow below navigation to configure those sections, if you need any help, you can refer this article » Learn Oracle Enhanced Talent Profile by Creating Custom Content Section
Navigation : My Client Groups » Profiles » Profile Types » Person » Add Content Sections
You can configure any one of both of these sections to demonstrate learning outcome concept
- Licenses and Certifications
- Competencies
Remember, before you can create these sections, you need to be ready with item catalogs that you can create after following below navigation

For our Digital Marketing Fundamentals course configure Item Catalogs and Profile Sections as follows
Item Catalog : Licenses and Certifications
Item Catalog : Competencies
Once you are done with these item catalogs, you can create sections and use these item catalogs. Please also ensure that in the subscriber section you have enabled Talent Profile and Learning Outcomes.

Learn to Configure Learning Outcomes
We are done with prerequisites, to configure learning outcome for any course, please follow below navigation.
Navigation : My Client Groups » Learning » Courses
On the Courses page, search for the Digital Marketing Fundamentals course you have configured earlier.
- Click on the course title to open it.
- Click on Edit button.
- Click on Learning Outcomes tab
- Click on Add Content button and select option Licenses and Certifications
- In the Licenses and Certifications section click on Add button and enter details as follows
- License or Certificate : Digital Marketing Fundamentals <which you configured earlier>
- Certificate Number : <You can keep it blank or enter something like DMF001>
- Renewal Required : Yes
- Click on Add Content button and select option Competencies
- In the Competencies section click on Add button and enter details as follows
- Competency : Digital Marketing Strategy <which you configured earlier>
- Proficiency Rating : Foundation <You might see different rating based on your rating model configuration>
- Evaluator Type : Defaulted to Learning
Once done, click on Save and Close button.
Verify Learning Outcome
To verify that learning outcome configuration is working as expected. Login as an employee and follow below navigation.

You can always follow learners experience article for detailed step but on high level these are the steps you need to follow
- Search for the Digital Marketing course
- Enroll to the course
- Complete course activities to mark course completed and you will see a new Skills and Qualifications section as shown below which will highlight your achievements after completing the course.
You can also follow below navigation to always refer your learning outcomes
Navigation : Me » Career and Performance » Skills and Qualifications
You will also see the source of the certificate which says Learning Outcome
Same goes for competencies, change the view by to Learning and you will see a new competency is added trough learning outcome.
Learning Outcome Questions
In this article, we have demonstrated how to attach learning outcomes to a course, and the same steps can be applied to associate learning outcomes with specializations as well. After a learner completes a course or specialization, the associated learning outcomes are reflected in the learner’s skills and qualifications section.
